Kitchen remodeling is a lot easier than you think! The first and most important step is planning, and then more planning! Unless you want truly custom cabinets, built not to sizes but built for your kitchen only, you're going to buy cabinets that are manufactured to standard sizes that come to your home in a box.
The easiest thing to do it to head to one of the big box stores and spend some time with the kitchen designer at the store drawing a few pretty designs. They don't charge for the service in the hope that they'll get the order, and maybe they will! Take a diagram of the kitchen-room, measuring the dimensions of the room with the locations of doors, windows, passageways, or other structural features. Don't worry about being exact at this point, but be close to accurate, and don't worry about the existing cabinets or appliances. All we need is a diagram of the space you have to turn into a kitchen. Use magazines to identify features you want, like recessed lighting, built in wine rack or a climate controlled wine storage cabinet, etc. Once you have some ideas, and a few sketches from the big box stores, call Frugal DIY! You should also call a contractor or two and get some prices so you'll be able to see how much money you save!
We'll review the sketches, the magazine photos, and other ideas you have, and begin to develop a plan. Because we've done countless kitchens, we'll even offer an idea or two to consider. Then we'll work out a budget. It's possible you might have to involve a few sub contractors, like an electician, and we'll have plenty of local referrals for you.
Once you select the cabinets you want, choosing from all wood, to composites, to flakeboard with photographic paper, and select the options like hardware design, color etc. we'll schedule our coaching time with you and get to work!
