In today's economy, being frugal isn't always a choice. Frugal DIY is here to help you keep your options open while learning new skills, adding value to your home and passing on a fantastic sense of accomplishment that comes with building stuff!

Frugal DIY is a woman owned business. Basically, my wife owns it and runs the business end, making sure all the books are in order and that the Frugal DIY Pros and I are on time for our next appointment.

I grew up in the trades, thaks to my father that was sort of a big shot in high rise construction in New York City. I remember well visiting the World Trade Center during its construction and having to ride in a freight elevator on the outside of the buildin go get to where we needed to go. No to dampen the mood, but I hope this mention of the World Trade Center reminds you of September 11, 2001. I lost 6 childhood friends that day, and John Coughlin, my captain from when I spent a brief time as a firefighter. We must never forget them and their families.

Our staff of Pros has been carefully selected. Every one of us has at least a decade of professional experience in residential construction. I have over 25 years. I've done almost everything, from all types of roofing and siding, to wiring a 6,000 sq. foot house to digging footers for a foundation, and I've done them countless times. I know exactly how much money you can save when you do things yourself. The home I line in now has 6 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, 21 roof surfaces and enough HardiPlank siding to cover 3 of my neighbors homes, and I did it with only my better half's help in 18 months while I worked a full time job. Every night at 5:30 until midnight at least, every weekend, in all weather, I never missed a day. It wasn't easy, but it was worth it. We brough the house in at under $40 a square foot, less than 25% of what two builders quoted us on the house. If you'd like to see some photos, just ask! I love to share the memory!

In addition to construction professionals, we also have expert sales people. Not to sell, but to buy materials and hire sub contractors for our homeowners when we need to. You can buy everything you need to build a 12 x 20 deck, and we'll buy the same materials for at least 10% less because we have the experience and knowledge of how to get the deals from the suppliers. Because of our purchasing volume the suppliers love when we walk in their door! Many of the local suppliers have a multi-tier pricing system in their computer. When a homeowner walks in, they pay sticker price. When a contractor walks in, they pay less.

Even if you don't hire us to coach you through the entire project, hire us for a bit of consulting to educate yourself on the different options in materials and suppliers.

Give us a call at (434) 202-4198, or use the contact form to get started. Our initial consultation fee is only $88, and we credit that back to you in full when you hire us as your personal on-site home improvement and remodleing coach.
